Corporate governance plays a critical role in building trust and sustainability in today's business world. The Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) at NUS Business School, a thought leader in corporate governance research, has taken a significant step forward in transforming its processes. Traditionally, CGS relied on manual methods to conduct corporate governance assessments, which were time-consuming and labor-intensive. Tasks such as data extraction, acquisition, and analysis were performed manually, leading to inefficiencies, fatigue, and time delays. TCS leveraged its AI and ML-driven, TCS ESG Integration Solution to enable automation of corporate governance assessments. The solution included an end-to-end platform for data extraction, acquisition, analytics and dashboard capabilities tailored to CGS’ specific needs. Not to mention that it had a human in the loop component to validate and continuously improve the results. It’s innovation applied to governance. The automation helps to save some time from the assessment process when it could obtain disclosures quickly. It also helps in the preliminary assessment of the disclosure and presenting the results via dashboards. We still have human researchers checking the results and doing more complex assessment, but the time saved means our researcher can spend their time on higher value tasks. There is great promise. When the platform can cater to different corporate governance assessment frameworks, contextualised to different countries, much more work can be done in a shorter time. I believe future developments of the platform, which could include emerging developments such as generative AI, will help in its wider adoption. We are grateful to NUS Business School for this partnership. This partnership led us to deploying the TCS ESG Solution which integrates the Impact Assessment Framework and Data Hub. This scalable platform not only meets CGS’ current governance assessment needs, but also paves the pathway for the future. It will help position them for advancements in sustainable governance for a long time to come. Together, NUS Business School and TCS are transforming corporate governance assesments, setting new standards for a smarter, sustainable future.
