Catholic University of America partners with TCS to deliver unique learning experiences for future nurses.
The nursing profession is facing a global crisis. Around 30% to 35% of all nurses are considering quitting their profession within their first year of practice due to the extreme work demands leading to high stress and frequent burnout. The shortage of nurses can lead to compromised patient care, increased healthcare costs, and decreased quality of care.
To address this worldwide shortage of nurses, the Catholic University of America aimed to nurture more nursing students for their practice while incorporating innovation and creativity into their academic programs.
To achieve this, the university partnered with TCS to enhance the quality of learning experiences for nursing students and differentiate itself from other universities in the United States.
TCS worked with the Catholic University of America to develop a virtual hospital–an environment powered by augmented and virtual reality. This innovative setting enabled students to practice through simulation and make informed decisions, preparing them for real-life scenarios in hospitals. Regular exposure to simulation better equipped the nurses for on-floor execution, leading to fewer dropouts and better multi-tasking abilities.
One of the main objectives of TCS in developing the virtual hospital was to establish effective collaboration between its technology innovation team and the institute's faculty. Many faculty members are experienced practitioners, clinical nurses, and teachers with extensive clinical environment knowledge. This collaboration allowed for valuable insights into the challenges faced by new nurses, which helped TCS to create an optimal simulation.
In this video, Peter Kilpatrick and Marie Nolan talk about their experiences with TCS as a partner and how TCS provided the adequate support and expertise to bring technology and innovation to the fore.
Swipe LeftSwipe RightI would, of course, recommend TCS because of the quality of the work and the degree of innovation in the work. They were on time and on budget. They were collaborative and creative. And these are qualities you look for in a great partner."
