Solving Last Mile Delivery Challenges through Robotics
Despite a fair amount of automation and sophisticated software at warehouses, last mile delivery continues to be a challenge for retailers. While industrial robots have been providing sophisticated automation for manufacturing, replicating this in a retail warehouse poses several challenges, such as:
- Enabling image recognition of a million pieces of inventory of different shapes and sizes
- Gripping soft and small objects
- Identifying packets that are stacked one behind another or on top of one another
Perception algorithms that leverage deep learning as well as advancements in robotic ‘grasping’ can help retailers overcome these challenges.
