The leading packaging manufacturer faced a siloed technology landscape with a mix of ERP systems following rapid M&A-driven growth. Its multi-platform environment led to operational inefficiencies due to interoperability and the lack of a single source of accurate data. As complexity increased due to M&A activities, the company faced difficulties providing a single face to the customer due to the lack of an integrated system offering operational and functional synergies across business units. Such a technology environment made it difficult for management to understand the full breadth of manufacturing metrics and make data-backed decisions by consolidating fragmented systems.

TCS acted as the end-to-end business transformation partner on a scalable ‘digital core’ leveraging business transformation experience, process expertise, strategic insights and manufacturing industry experience. This helped Novolex consolidate business processes and obsolete ERP systems on the next-generation SAP S/4HANA platform. Accelerating the time-to-value, this business transformation fueled the growth of Novolex and allowed it to drive perpetual transformational benefits. This was achieved by leveraging cloud technologies, TCS accelerators, along with an agile implementation approach.

TCS’ digital core platform enabled Novolex to modernize business processes, applications and systems, and simplify business processes with digital automation. This helped drive business partnerships and M&As, besides establishing creative go-to-market strategies, additional revenue channels, and new product offerings.

A successful S/4HANA deployment has enabled perpetual value from the business transformation, and TCS’ unique approach has positioned the Novolex Shields business as a next-gen digital leader in packaging solutions.

The initiative delivered business value by reducing one-time opex, driving ongoing SGA (sales, general and administrative) improvements, and shortening monthly and quarterly financial close cycles. It also enabled manufacturing productivity efficiencies and working capital improvements through inventory optimization, and increased sales margins and pricing effectiveness. All this facilitated an increase in M&A activity.
