Organizations face increasing cyber threats in this volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world. Building cyber resilience is, therefore, the need of the hour for organizations, and this was the central theme of the TCS Cybersecurity Forum 2024 held in Zurich on September 26, 2024. The event brought together decision makers and influencers from the security, compliance, and digital transformation functions from several large, global organizations. The participants explored how they can realign their cybersecurity strategies to ensure their businesses are future-ready amid a changing technological landscape, driven largely by cloud and AI technologies.
Cyber resilience for businesses
Rainer Zahradnik, Country Head, TCS Switzerland, kicked off the event with a welcome address on how firms can create guardrails to get the best out of AI.
This was followed by a keynote address by Ganesa Subramanian Vaikuntam, Vice President and Global Head of Cybersecurity at TCS, who talked about the need for a proactive and comprehensive cybersecurity strategy that promotes innovation and sustainable growth.
He emphasized on the five pillars of cyber resilience for businesses—securing cloud-enabled transformation, regulatory compliance, safeguarding AI adoption, convergence of cyber-physical security, and the necessity of embedding security and privacy by design into organizational processes. He stressed on significance of forging strong partnerships to co-create tailored solutions and advocated for the adoption of security-as-a-service to enhance control and reduce costs.
AI governance
As enterprises adopt AI, cyberattacks targeting these systems have increased. As a result, firms are implementing comprehensive AI governance frameworks and programs with defined security measures throughout the design, development, and deployment phases, as well as continuous assurance for AI systems.
Dr. KPS Sandhu, Global Head of Strategic Initiatives at TCS, and Giles Ashton Roberts, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of Swissport, delved further into AI governance measures touching upon AI-driven tools and compliance with regulations such as the EU AI Act and NIS2. They emphasized the growing importance of compliance for AI deployment in logistics.
Strategies for cyber-resilient businesses
As cyber resilience is integral to safeguarding businesses against evolving threats, understanding its importance allows organizations to anticipate risks and respond effectively, thereby minimizing potential damages.
Daljit Singh Bilkhu, the head of Cybersecurity Consulting at TCS, expanded further on cyber resilience, discussing strategies for building resilient digital infrastructures, including the implementation of robust security protocols and the need to create a culture of awareness among employees. He urged businesses to be vigilant and adapt their security practices to thrive in a changing digital environment.
To ensure a business is future-ready, it needs to embed some key attributes such as putting in place adaptive security measures, a continuous monitoring process, and a robust incident response strategy, emphasized Thomas Gigerl, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Arxada.
Securing distributed cloud
Distributed cloud computing represents a paradigm shift in how data and applications are managed, offering flexibility and scalability across multiple locations. However, this innovation introduces significant security challenges, including data breaches, insufficient visibility, and compliance risks.
Rahul Singh, Head of Sales and Solutions, EMEA, TCS, moderated a panel discussion on how firms can strengthen their cloud security. The panelists—which included Arxada’s CISO, Thomas Gigerl and Zscaler’s regional CISO, Christoph Schuhwerk—explored the intricacies of upholding security in distributed cloud environments, addressing governance regulations and compliance challenges in a rapidly evolving cloud ecosystem.
