MUMBAI | CHENNAI March 13, 2017: Tata Consultancy Services, (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, announced today that over 46,000 college teams from across the globe competed in the fifth global coding challenge for students, TCS CodeVita.
Teams from Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information & Communication Technology and International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad won the top three spots respectively after a fiercely contested grand finale held at TCS Siruseri Campus in Chennai today.
TCS CodeVita, is a contest for engineering and science students to experience the joy of coding and to sharpen their programming skills through real-life computing practices. Hackathons such as CodeVita provide the student community an opportunity to learn and interact with peers in the world of technology.
K Ananth Krishnan, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, TCS, said, “TCS encourages the culture of programming-as-a-sport and contests such as CodeVita provide students a platform to showcase as well as sharpen their skills in the field of programming. Engaging with prospective recruits at Hackathons is increasingly supplementing traditional hiring techniques. This enables recruiters to witness real time problem solving abilities of the candidates in a competitive environment. TCS has adopted gamification in hiring and CodeVita gives us access to the best programming talent from across the world.”
CodeVita season five witnessed over 2, 60,000 registrations from more than 3000 colleges. Out of this 46,418 teams made it to the Round 1 and the top 15 teams from this moved to the final phase of the contest. In the grand finale of TCS CodeVita, 15 finalist teams (all from India) battled for six hours to solve coding problems and algorithms in a highly gamified environment, which tested their technical knowledge, speed, agility and creativity.
All the 30 finalists have been given provisional offers from TCS.
The team comprising Yash Sadhwan and Sagar Kaniche from IIT Hyderabad bagged CodeVita’s 1st prize of $10,000 and the 2nd prize of $7,000 was bagged by Karan Thakkar and Yash Kumar from DA-IICT. Kailash Gandebathula and Chaitanya Alaparthi from IIIT Hyderabad walked away with the third prize of $3,000.
The question bank for this Year's CodeVita was crowd sourced through a platform called Philacodists. The coding challenge has also been listed in the Limca Book of Records for "Maximum number of participation in a coding contest in India".
