TCS Recognized by Points of Light for its Positive Societal Impact Via STEM Education, Pro-Bono Technology Services and Skills Based Volunteerism
NEW YORK | MUMBAI, June 21, 2017: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, was recognized in The Civic 50 as one of America’s 50 most community-minded companies by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. The Civic 50 provides a national standard for superior corporate citizenship and showcases how companies can use their time, skills and other resources to improve the quality of life in the communities where they do business and drive noticeable change.
“We are honored to be recognized and stand alongside many other respected US brands that are deeply engaged in the local communities where they operate and are contributing to key societal needs,” said Surya Kant, President of TCS, North America, UK and Europe. “At TCS, we believe the hallmark of a purpose driven organization is leading with citizenship values, empowering a culture of service and creating a positive impact to society and humanity.”
Driven by its mantra of ‘Impact through Empowerment’, TCS has prioritized its corporate social responsibility efforts in health, education and planet; building a broad-based, collaborative and cross-sector effort that reaches more than two million young adults while leveraging its own intellectual, technological and human capital to supplement financial philanthropic investments. More than 40% of TCS employees in the U.S. volunteer in their local communities, and $12+ million in social good has been created by pro-bono technology services for 50+ non-profit organizations. TCS has built a national technology infrastructure to enable mentoring of girls, young women and students from minorities and low income groups.
“In the fifth year of honoring the most community-minded companies in the nation, The Civic 50 truly highlights the commitment to community and civic engagement of America’s leading brands,” said Jennifer Lawson, president of networks at Points of Light. “By elevating critical stakeholder voices from employees, customers and communities into their mission statements, The Civic 50 companies are putting themselves at the center of change to create more enduring and sustainable business models.”
TCS’ flagship student engagement program, goIT, has engaged more than 13,000 middle and high school students across 54 cities in the United States and Canada with hands-on experiences in computer science, inspiring them towards tech careers in all sectors. Launched in March 2017, Ignite My Future in School will engage 20,000 teachers and more than one million students over the next five years to prepare them for 21st century careers. In partnership with Discovery Education, Ignite My Future in School will enable educators, administrators and school districts to become ambassadors of a transdisciplinary approach and introduce computational thinking within the context of core subjects such as English, mathematics, social studies, science, and the arts.
TCS has been a leading STEM education proponent for the past decade, through highly scalable cross-sector initiatives such as US2020, Million Women Mentors (MWM) and national partnerships with STEMConnector®, Npower, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. TCS is a founder and technology partner of MWM, which has generated 1.8 million pledges and 850,000+ mentoring engagements to date between career professionals and young women keen to succeed in STEM careers.
“This recognition reinforces our belief that an enterprise’s true purpose is to serve the community and improve the quality of life. Today’s societal challenges can be addressed through the combined power of purpose, people and technology,” added Balaji Ganapathy, Head of Workforce Effectiveness, TCS. “Congratulations to all The Civic 50 organizations, each of whom demonstrate the value of doing well by doing good."
The Civic 50 winners are public and private companies with U.S. operations and revenues of $1 billion or more, and are selected based on four dimensions of their U.S. community engagement programs: Investment, Integration, Institutionalization and Impact. Administered by True Impact, the Civic 50 is the only survey and ranking system that exclusively measures corporate involvement in communities.
