Recognized for promoting women, addressing gender imbalance and celebrating the outstanding contribution women make to technology
LONDON | MUMBAI, March 14, 2018: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, has been recognized as the best company for diversity and inclusion at the 2018 Women in Technology and Data Awards, hosted by Waters Technology, to recognize, promote and celebrate the outstanding contributions made by women in technology and data roles.
TCS was highlighted at the event as an industry leader that is making a difference, and was also cited for its commitment to promoting women and addressing gender imbalance.
Shankar Narayanan, Country Head, TCS, UK & Ireland, said, “We are honoured to be recognized among other major technology leaders, demonstrating our deep commitment to improving diversity and inclusion, not just in our company, but within the wider industry, too. We always strive to continually improve diversity in order to benefit our business, our customers and the UK economy.”
Katie Palisoul, Publisher, WatersTechnology, said: “Diversity and inclusion is an issue that has been a major focus in recent years. A diverse range of opinions, backgrounds and ideas is crucial for any organization. Our goal was to create an event that would not only celebrate women, but also encourage women to connect with each other and facilitate networking. Any company that has received recognition at our inaugural awards should be proud of the positive steps they are taking to address gender imbalance, which ultimately will benefit their business, customers and end users.”
TCS was also recently listed as one of the Top Regarded Companies in the Forbes 2017 Global 2000 list and recognized as Britain’s “Top Employer” by the Top Employer Institute in February 2018. In addition, the company was named in Fortune magazine’s Change the World 50 list of companies that have had a positive social impact through activities that are part of their core business strategy.
TCS has more than 390,000 employees globally, representing more than 129 nationalities, and of whom more than a third are women. A heavy investment has been made in training to help women at all levels excel in their roles, including one to one coaching when they take up senior positions, a Rising Stars Program for those with three to five years of experience and the Pathways to Success Workshop, a leadership programme for women with five to eight years of experience.
TCS is not only committed to improving diversity and inclusion for current employees, but also for future generations. Through its IT Futures programme, the company has now reached more than 200,000 young people across the UK. The aim is for them to not only be a user of technology, but also a creator of technology and talent. Last year, TCS launched its latest initiative for the programme, Digital Explorers Experience Work, in partnership with MyKindaFuture.
As part of its ongoing work with MyKindaFuture, TCS also hosted the Best School Trip, created by Your Life, a government-supported campaign. The company opened its doors to 35 female students, offering activities, challenges and an inspirational Q&A session with women leaders in the technology industry. This provided all attendees an insight into how to create a successful career within the industry.
Shankar Narayanan, Country Head, TCS, UK & Ireland, added, “Digital technologies are impacting the UK economy in a significant way and we must ensure that a diversity of genders, races and backgrounds are included in this opportunity. TCS is one of the country’s largest digital employers and is committed to working in partnership with businesses, government and communities throughout the UK in order to give everyone a chance to benefit from the digital world.”
