Tata Consultancy Service’s Ignite My Future (IMF) program is committed to empowering teachers with the tools they need to prepare young people to thrive in the careers of the future. By leveraging TCS’s partnership with Jaguar TCS Racing, which competes in the all-electric ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, IMF has excited teachers and students about STEM and computational thinking.
IMF is TCS’ pioneering STEM education program aimed at empowering educators to integrate computational thinking, a foundational 21st century skill, into all core subjects. Computational thinking is a higher order approach to problem solving that uses strategic methods to solve problems, just like a computer scientist would. We know that 65% of primary students will end up in a job that doesn’t exist yet and that computational thinking skills will prepare them for future careers across all industries.
In collaboration with Jaguar TCS Racing, TCS created a Behind-the-Scenes with Jaguar TCS Racing, an experience that gives students and teachers an inside look into the garage. This free content includes videos paired with lesson plans that incorporate STEM and computational thinking into Jaguar TCS Racing operations. This experience is already inspiring students to problem solve, collaborate, and learn transferable skills as they prepare for the careers of the future.
As part of Behind-the-Scenes with Jaguar TCS Racing, TCS invited 10 teachers and 37 students from five countries to exclusive garage tours. To prepare for the field trip, teachers and students worked on lessons and activities from the Behind-the-Scenes curriculum, providing students a good foundation for what drives success in Formula E.
At the track, teachers and students were invited into the garage to meet with the team, learn about careers in Formula E, and watch as the team prepared for the race. After the tour and Q&A session, students cheered for the team as they tested their cars on the track for the first time that weekend. The visit brought classroom lessons to life.
IMF provides teachers free professional development and resources to help them engage students in real-world problem-solving scenarios. Teachers also get the opportunity to collaborate, learn from one another, and participate in special TCS projects with their students. Professional development, training, and resources are typically written for grades 6-8/ages 10-14; however, it can be tweaked to accommodate lower/primary and upper/secondary grades.
The program partners with schools, non-profits, and governments to reach teachers and students around the world with an emphasis on underserved communities and populations. Since 2017, the IMF has reached over 35,000 teachers and more than 2 million students globally. To learn more about the program, click here.
