Highlights
At TCS, we invest in marathon partnerships because we believe in the power of this sport to transform lives and communities in the same way technology transforms businesses.
Running is a powerful global unifier that empowers TCS’ commitment to give back to the communities where we live, work, and play. That is why we’re proud to support the following initiatives.
TCS is the title partner of the TCS Mini London Marathon, which aims to inspire new generations of runners, build communities, and encourage children of all abilities aged 4 to 17 to pursue holistic lifestyles. On Saturday, April 20, 2024, thousands of school children and young people will be running, jogging, walking, or wheeling a one-mile or 2.6km course in the heart of London.
To inspire the community to join the event, we will donate £10 per finisher to the participating schools, which they can spend on PE or IT equipment. So, the more children participate, the more money schools can raise.
Here’s what some of the receiving schools spent their money on.
The Poverest Primary School used the money to buy equipment for the school’s cross-country club. “We have a weekly session, and children attend to develop their fitness as well as understand more about distance running.”
Similarly, St John's Church of England Primary School authorities said, “The money we received from TCS went to purchasing basketballs - which were very much needed - especially as some of our pupils who have learning breaks were wanting to play basketball at this time.”
TCS is delighted to see the mini marathon continue to grow, with more than 8,200 people taking part last year. For 2024, we’re hoping to see this increase to an incredible 14,000.
In addition to raising money and encouraging children to be active, the 2.6K race will also host the TCS Mini London Marathon championships. This will give the UK’s most promising young athletes the chance to compete against the best new talent in British road running.
Teachers are agents of change in their communities.
That’s why we created the Team TCS Teachers programme, which allows a select group of educators the opportunity to run at the TCS London Marathon and get access to TCS’ flagship science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programmes for their schools. Team TCS Teachers not only celebrates the transformational impact educators have on the lives of their students, but it also inspires young people to explore STEM careers, including the many opportunities in sport-related technology!
Since its first cohort in 2018 in the TCS NYC Marathon, over 300 teachers have run with Team TCS Teachers. In 2023, Team TCS Teachers featured nearly 100 teachers running five of the most notable marathons in three countries, including the first cohort of 14 at the TCS London Marathon. We look forward to cheering on our 2024 cohort at the 2024 TCS London Marathon and celebrating their achievements with their students and colleagues!
The TCS London Marathon is the largest annual fundraising event on the planet. Since it began in 1981, participants have raised more than £1.1 billion for good causes.
Last year marked an important moment as it became the biggest mass event in the history of the London Marathon, with over 48,000 participants. The 2023 event is estimated to have helped raise over £60 million for charities.
So, get ready to head out on your next training run. Take heart in the fact that you’re showcasing the transformational impact of running and in the huge number of charities, schools, and communities that will benefit from the event.
