A marathon is a wild ride for anyone who sets out to conquer it. The course of the TCS New York City Marathon traverses vibrant, diverse neighborhoods filled with bridge climbs and thousands of roaring fans. It’s the biggest and wildest one of all.
November 6 was no exception. The 2022 TCS New York City Marathon returned to full capacity for the first time since 2019, with 47,839 people finishing in the sizzling heat. Among the runners were 330 TCS clients, 112 TCSers, 49 Team TCS Teachers Program members, and notable figures like actor Ashton Kutcher.
Behind each of these numbers is a name; every name has a story, and every story matters. These are powerful narratives characterized by dedication, the love of running, and a desire to achieve big goals. No one achieves their marathon goals alone. From the technology used to track runners to the medal placed around each finisher’s neck, TCS backs every runner as they race on self-belief to the finishing line. The average finisher at this year’s marathon was tracked 16 times by family, friends, and fans on the marathon’s mobile app, built and run by TCS.
For the first time in the history of major marathons, the professional men’s and women’s wheelchair and open division races were livestreamed on the app in their entirety, empowering fans to swipe between feeds and watch the race of their choice, all from their mobile device.
Hundreds of thousands of people from around the world tuned into the marathon live using the TCS app, which saw a total download of 487,113. Using the trailblazing Second Screen Feature, the Pro Runner Feed, on the app created by TCS Interactive, people in Kenya were able to watch national heroes Sharon Lokedi and Evans Chebet break the tape as they made their debut on the NYC track. The Pro Runner Feed was viewed 313,941 times across 145 countries.
Through the Course Camera feature, family and friends watched their runners at five key points along the marathon route, including at the finish line. The Course Cameras were viewed 324,668 times across 151 countries, making the marathon experience come alive for runners and fans alike.
