'Internet of Things' emerges as top priority for participating industry leaders
Davos | Mumbai, January 24, 2015: – Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading Digital organization, participated in the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, as a strategic partner, in conversations surrounding the ‘New Global Context’- the overriding theme at Davos this year.
A significant force shaping the ‘New Global Context’ is the emergence of ‘Digital’ technologies. Digital was front and center at the agenda of the forum this year, with a majority of discussions focusing on both the disruptive and progressive role technology is playing in this context.
Taking over as the chair of the IT Governors steering committee of the WEF, the CEO and Managing Director of TCS, N. Chandrasekaran said; “Going digital is no longer an option for all of us, it is the default.” As the chair, Chandra will work with WEF and CEOs of other global IT companies in 2015-16 to define an agenda of priorities for the IT industry, as they help other industries navigate an era of transformational change.
Within the Digital context, the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) clearly emerged in Davos as the foremost priority on the technology agenda across most industries. Over 50 billion devices are expected to be connected to each other by 2020, driving a large scale re-imagination of how societies live, interact and do business. In his opening remarks during the Harvard Business Review breakfast on IoT with the Bishop William Lawrence University Professor at Harvard Business School, Michael E. Porter, Chandra said; “The Internet of Things will transform every company, industry and society. This is the third wave of the connected economy – the first wave through the world wide web allowed sources of information to be connected; in the second wave, the social web allowed for individuals to connect, and now in the third wave, have IoT connecting multiple electrical and electronic devices across homes, offices, factories and cities."
