Chennai, April 28, 2012: In a showcase project that underlines its commitment to use technology solutions to enhance the quality of life in the community where it operates, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions firm announced that it has equipped city-based Cancer Institute (WIA) with a world-class hospital management system to help this unique institution in its mission to provide state-of-the-art treatment to one and all without social or economic divide.
The newly installed Hospital Management System (HMS), TCS Med Mantra, will enhance the quality of care that this landmark institution provides to over 130,000 patients every year. This HMS system helps the Cancer Institute focus more on care delivery to the patients by presenting doctors and specialists (some based in other locations) with a holistic view of the patient’s history through centralized system of electronic medical records. This enables doctors to make better informed decisions on diagnosis and treatment, concurrently reducing the possibility of medication errors.
Dr. V Shanta, Chairman, Cancer Institute (WIA), said, “The Cancer Institute is a mission of service and committed to provide state-of-art treatment to one and all without social or economic divide. TCS Med Mantra, the HMS software generously sponsored by the Tata Consultancy Services has provided the necessary technology for quality care and patient satisfaction. The installation of this system has been carefully planned and executed by TCS taking into account our unique clinical and operational needs. We are grateful to the entire TCS team for their unstinted commitment.”
She added, “Having been part of the process over the last two years and being aware of the sophistications in technology that the software has introduced, we look forward to a continuing association with TCS as we go forward with more innovations. We do hope that this continuation will be a shared objective.”
“Information technology can help enhance the quality of care for all patients as it allows hospitals to deliver improved healthcare. We have equipped the Cancer Institute with our own comprehensive state-of-the-art solution that supports all clinical and administrative functions of the hospital,” said N Chandrasekaran, CEO & MD, TCS.
TCS financially and intellectually sponsored the entire project lifecycle from design to implementation. It has built the entire technology infrastructure backbone and applications to run the entire operations of the organization and a team from TCS will continue to support the HMS going forward.
“Cancer institute has a very noble charter to provide high-quality care to patients regardless of their ability to pay and TCS is proud to play a part in that mission”, added Chandrasekaran.
A large team of TCS engineers and leaders from multiple business units and four locations (Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Cincinnati) were involved in executing this project to The Cancer Institute’s specifications. The TCS team has meticulously customized the solution to meet the Oncology Specialty requirements as well as the non-profit model of the Cancer Institute.
TCS Med Mantra is an Internet-based HMS product developed by TCS, which leverages TCS’ Cloud Computing platform for “anytime, anywhere” access with the capability to integrate information from various patient touch-points in a hospital.
TCS Med Mantra became operational in December 2010, with the automation of the following functions:
Clinical & Nursing, Patient Admission & Transfer, Blood Bank, Operation Theater and Stores were automated subsequently. Two new oncology-specific modules, Radiation Therapy and Surgical Pathology have been specifically developed for the Cancer Institute and are implemented.
The final phase of the TCS Med Mantra installation was completed in March 2012 and it now touches every point in the patients’ journey through Cancer Institute from Registration to Discharge.
