Singapore / Mumbai, India February 26, 2009: Tata Consultancy Services (BSE: TCS.BO, NSE: TCS.NS), the leading IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm, today announced that it has been chosen by Singapore Airlines to provide IT Services for three years for a suite of applications used by the Singapore Airlines Group of Companies.
After the end of the existing term, Singapore Airlines went through a formal vendor selection process and chose to partner with TCS based on the firm’s strong capabilities in offering integrated IT services to support a range of processes and applications across the airline.
For the past 12 years, TCS has been the trusted partner for Singapore Airlines, successfully helping the global airline improve efficiency, reduce operational and maintenance costs, enabling productivity gains in its applications space.
Under the agreement, TCS will continue to manage a significant portion of Singapore Airlines’ IT systems including 24x7 business critical applications ranging from passenger reservations to flight operations. TCS’ rigorous metrics-based management model and airline domain expertise will ensure increased responsiveness for Singapore Airlines customers and its application rationalization program will help the airline minimize costs, reduce risks and increase business agility.

TCS’ partnership with Singapore Airlines dates back to the early 90s when the two organizations set up a joint venture known as Aviation Software Development and Consultancy (ASDC) to essentially support Singapore Airlines’ IT systems and applications. ASDC was eventually acquired and integrated into TCS in 2006. In 2008, TCS was awarded a 5-year contract with Singapore Airlines Cargo to service its cargo revenue accounting back office processes.
The travel and transportation sector is emerging as a key vertical for TCS, generating 4.0% of the company’s total USD 5.7 billion revenues in FY08. TCS launched a dedicated Travel & Hospitality Innovation Lab in 2007 to help airlines enhance customer experience and differentiate themselves in an era of increasing competition and new distribution models.
