TCS Sponsors the Boston Marathon for the Fourth Consecutive Year
Boston | Mumbai, April 12, 2013: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) a leading IT services, consulting, and business solutions organization, today, announced that it is the official technology consulting partner of the Boston Athletic Association and the 2013 Boston Marathon to be held on Monday, April 15, 2013.
The partnership will kick off at the three-day John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo held at the John B Hynes Convention Center. TCS will also sponsor four information kiosks and tables frequented by marathon runners and spectators throughout the race weekend.
“Marathon runners are inherently dedicated, well-prepared and persistent; these are traits that I encourage our employees to emulate each and every day,” said N Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD, TCS. “We are proud to say that TCS will field 20 runners, including TCS employees and clients, in this year’s race.”
TCS is also the exclusive information technology sponsor of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon (October 13, 2013) and the official IT consulting sponsor of the ING New York Marathon (November 3, 2013). This is the fourth year that TCS will participate in all three major US marathons.
In conjunction with these partnerships, TCS will actively engage in increasing awareness of heart disease. This year, TCS will be raising funds for the American Heart Association by providing onlookers at Copley Square with cowbells in exchange for a suggested $1 donation. The company is also encouraging all of its associates to participate in events, raise funds and focus on preventing heart disease and stroke through simple lifestyle changes.
“We are pleased to be sponsoring the Boston Marathon for another year and providing race updates to spectators at our various information stations,” said Surya Kant, President, TCS’ North America, UK and Europe. “In addition, the marathon is our opportunity to give back to the community through our partnership with the American Heart Association.”
Established in 1887 and now in its 125th Anniversary year, the Boston Athletic Association is a non-profit organization with a mission of managing athletic events and promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running. The BAA’s Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, and the organization manages other local events and supports comprehensive charity, youth, and year-round running programs. Since 1986, the principal sponsor of the Boston Marathon has been John Hancock Financial. The Boston Marathon is part of the World Marathon Majors, along with the international marathons in Tokyo, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York City. The 117th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013. Nearly 50,000 runners will participate in BAA events in 2013.
