Tata Consultancy Services rated Level A+ for its Sustainability Report by GRI

Mumbai, India, May 20, 2010: Tata Consultancy Services (BSE: TCS.BO, NSE: TCS.NS), the leading IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm today announced that it has been rated Level A+ by GRI for its Corporate Sustainability Report. The report summarizes TCS' initiatives for the betterment of society, communities, and the environment during the financial year April 2008-March 2009.

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework serves as a generally accepted framework for reporting on an organization’s economic, environmental, and social performance. It is designed for use by organizations of any size, sector, or location. The TCS Sustainability report has been externally assured by KPMG Advisory Services.

We also continue to place strong emphasis on societal needs and in recent years have addressed environmental and climate change issues with increased significance. The report focuses on TCS’ global operations, and on significant economic, environmental and social factors that impact the way TCS does business, including its relationships with key stakeholders. The Sustainability Reporting Guidelines of GRI are used to illustrate TCS’ progress and performance in Corporate Sustainability activities. Some of the key highlights of the report are:

Achieved 15.6% decrease in consumption of electricity in terms of kilowatts per person per month
Achieved 42.5% decrease in paper consumption
Ensured 100% environment friendly disposal of e-waste
The Computer-based Functional Literacy (CBFL) program has served over 1,20,000 learners in pilot studies all over India
