Kochi, February 8, 2013: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS), a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions firm, announced, today, in collaboration with Infopark, Kochi, the launch of a major initiative to promote wellness amongst corporate employees and benefit local charities in the city, called “TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge – Run Miles & Bring Smiles.”
As part of the launch, TCS and Infopark are organizing a fitness program and run for charity on February 10, at Kochi Infopark campus. Open for all companies and their employees in Kochi, the TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge will be a five-mile run for teams with a minimum team size of four members where at least one member should be a woman participant. Over 1200 participants from over 40 companies have already registered for the event.
Research has shown that lifestyle diseases will be on the high amongst youth if they do not engage in fitness activities. It has also been shown that people who sit for over 11 hours a day face a 40% higher risk of dying than those who sit fewer than four hours. The lack of exercise is now causing as many deaths as smoking across the world.
“In today’s economic scenario, employee wellness is no longer desirable, but pivotal to an organization’s long-term success. However, the pace of life often deters people from taking up activities for improving health. If the concept of improving health and wellness is coupled with improved bonding and camaraderie among co-workers as well contributing to a social cause, I am convinced many professionals will be proud to be associated with such an initiative,” said N Chandrasekaran, CEO and MD, TCS.
Chandrasekaran added, “After the successful launch of Fit4Life internally at TCS, the company is happy to extend it other corporations in order to spread awareness about health, tenacity and fitness. TCS has a longstanding commitment to promoting health and fitness not just among its own employees, but across local communities and society at large through its sponsorship of athletic races and marathons in cities in India and overseas.”
The contributions received from TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge will benefit the “Cochin Cancer Society,” the charity partner of this run. Winners will receive a medal and cash prize that goes for the charity partner of their company.
Multiple teams from each corporate are allowed to participate. All participants will receive a runners’ kit while all finishers will be presented with a medal of participation. The five-mile run will kick start from the Infopark campus, pass through Kusumagiri and return through the Infopark Express way to the starting point.
The TCS Fit4life Corporate Challenge provides for professionals, corporate citizens of Infopark and Kochi a platform to improve their health, team spirit camaraderie and contribute to a social cause.
