GROWING CYBER RISKS
Today’s organizations believe multi-cloud is the key enabler of digital transformation. The power and flexibility it offers is offset by the complexities in securing the landscape.
Spanning across multiple cloud service providers, applications, and systems, a multi-cloud ecosystem is more complex to secure. Lack of visibility across hosts, services, and incompatible configurations creates security gaps that disrupt the business.
Traditional Managed Detection Response (MDR) is not optimized for proactive security. The security team discovers incidents only after an attack. Such an approach weakens the organization’s defense and can cause untimely business disruptions. Traditional MDR solutions lack pre-emptive capabilities to anticipate threats before it strikes and combat them in real-time.
A CHINK IN YOUR ARMOR
How a traditional MDR compromises your organization’s security posture
- Lack of visibility: Traditional MDR solutions have limitations in monitoring logs from multi-cloud setups. It lacks visibility of the hosted resources and services due to a lack of APIs and logging accessibility.
- Complexity: Traditional security information and event management (SIEM) have multiple components like collection, storage, analytics that require heavy server configuration, timely patching, and updating.
- Talent scarcity: Hiring a skilled workforce that can stay ahead of hackers by configuring an MDR solution with latest updates is becoming a huge challenge.
- Lack of cloud compatibility: Traditional MDR solutions need diverse components, servers, and third-party solutions to enable new features and be compatible with SaaS and cloud applications.
- Delayed recovery: Incident response and remediation requires manual validation at different levels for security operations center (SOC) experts.
REACTIVE TO PROACTIVE
To improve cyber resilience, next-gen MDR solutions must be capable of monitoring multiple data sources to detect incidents ahead of time and prevent potential attacks.
- Coverage: The next-gen MDR solution must have end-to-end visibility of data and logs from multiple cloud sources and on-prem servers without the need for parsing. The solution should be compatible with an organization’s software, platforms, infrastructure, internet of things (IoT) sensors, and operational technology (OT) environment.
- Compliance: Today’s organizations must meet three data compliance requirements: making the data available 24/7, storing it locally, and giving 24/7 access. Next-gen MDR solutions should have a presence in customer geography to meet these demands.
- Composition: MDR solutions should be quickly deployable and integrate out-of-box content for threat detection, threat hunting, and data visualization.
- Capability: MDR solutions must process the data in real-time to alert an oncoming breach or attack leveraging automation. Apart from signature-based detection, it should identify deviations through behavioral monitoring leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).
In a world of unabated cyber threats, deploying a next-gen MDR solution will reinvent your security posture from reactive to proactive.
