Chennai, December 8, 2012: The TCS IT Wiz 2012 final, held at the Hotel Taj Coromandel in Chennai, India, witnessed a see-saw battle through the final rounds with teams from Delhi, Hyderabad and Kolkata dominating the proceedings. Arnav Sharma and Prempal Singh from New Era Public School, Mayapuri, representing Delhi, were crowned the national champions in a tie-breaker. Aviral Dasgupta and Shubham Agarwal from Loyola School, Jamshedpur, representing Kolkata, were declared runners-up.
The National Finals comprised 14 winning teams from Ahmedabad, Bangalore Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune. It concluded a journey with over 17,478 school students competing for regional titles across 14 cities from 113 locations in 2012. This year, the quiz expanded its geographical footprint with two more cities, Nagpur and Indore.
TCS IT Wiz, this year, reached to over 700,000 students from 3500 schools across the country.
After the engrossing final, N Chandrasekaran, CEO & MD, TCS, remarked, “It was terrific sitting in the audience. The level of knowledge and IQ displayed here was just awesome. All of them are winners in their own right.” He later handed over the trophies and prizes to the winners and runners-up.
“It is inspiring for us all to see an excellent display of talent and knowledge from the finalists. We, at TCS, believe in engaging and connecting with the youth to help them realize their potential as they are the future leaders of this nation,” said Chandrasekaran.
The highlight of the quiz was the animation-based quiz software, created by the Quizmaster Pickbrain and his team, which engaged the students in a generationally-relevant manner.
In keeping with the times, the TCS IT Wiz has also gone social with an active presence on Twitter and Facebook. The Twitter communication included quiz-related announcements, queries and response to registrations. Students were also asked to share their experience, questions and photographs, through live tweets.
TCS IT Wiz was started in 1999 for students of classes 8-12, as an educational initiative for schools. The program aims to build awareness, hone IT skills and encourage students to get excited about IT through a new perspective. Through the quiz, the company aims to get school students interested about IT and the possibilities that it brings for young, inquisitive minds brimming with energy and passion. IT plays an integral role in today’s society and economy and is a key enabler for success in diverse fields.
