The start and finish lines of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon are perhaps the most iconic of all races— runners begin and end the race at the Olympic Stadium that hosted the games in 1928. Steeped in more than a hundred years of running history, Amsterdam’s association with running began long before the 1928 Olympics. The first road race in the city happened in 1916, while the first official marathon was held in 1975 and attracted over 300 runners.
Amsterdam, the fourth fastest marathon course in the world, sees participation by runners from across the world, all trying to achieve their personal best and take on records. It is one of the few international road races with a Platinum label from World Athletics, the global governing authority of athletics.
TCS has been the title sponsor of the Amsterdam Marathon since 2011. Hosting over 45,000 runners from around the globe, it is one of the biggest and most popular marathons in Europe. The marathon’s picturesque course takes runners through the capital city’s historic sights. They start in the Olympic Stadium and run through the famous passage of the Rijksmuseum, the Netherlands’ principal national museum. After that, runners continue along the banks of the Amstel River before entering Amsterdam’s popular Vondelpark and finishing in an Olympic ambiance.
The TCS Amsterdam Marathon official race app enables participants to access features that enhance the event experience. The app helps runners share their bib details, allowing friends and family to track their progress. It also allows sharing and comparing stats with fellow participants and getting provisional race results after crossing the finish line.
TCS is passionate about the well-being of our employees and the communities we participate in. Be it business, life, or running, we believe no one completes a journey alone. The Amsterdam marathon encapsulates this belief. Every year, TCS running teams participate in the marathon. In 2022, we had 35 teams taking part in the journey.
The 2024 marathon is not only about fitness and fun. Thousands of runners run for a bigger cause—to raise money for charity. The 2023 edition of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon raised a record amount of more than €1,1 million for the Amsterdam UMC Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA). It aims to cure cancer by integrating world-class research with healthcare and education and creating new possibilities for patients.
