The year of AI
If 2024 has been the year of AI, then this year’s AI Appreciation Day, a day of recognition for AI’s positive contributions to humanity, marks an important milestone in the conversations the world has been having about this technology.
In a year where we have seen proof positive of AI’s ability to do incredible things—from writing poetry to accelerating cancer drug discovery to helping us all be more productive—what does truly appreciating this technology mean?
For TCS, appreciating AI means recognizing the potential of these technologies to enhance humanity. TCS believes that AI—working in partnership with humans—can democratize knowledge and supercharge decision-making capabilities for workers of every experience level.
For TCS, the future is AI, the future is human.
Better futures
When it comes to how we work and live, the future seems bright. TCS research has shown that 90% of futurists are optimistic about how AI will transform work, while 57% of senior executives are optimistic about the potential for AI to transform their business.
Why are so many professionals who have worked with AI first-hand optimistic about the future? TCS North America Chairman Suresh Muthuswami, TCS Principal Futurist Frank Diana, and Distinguished Fellow with the Alfred Lee Loomis Innovation Council at the Stimson Center Anthony Scriffignano came together to answer this very question in a new video.
Making it work
The transformation of work will be for everyone. Indeed, TCS futurists envision that some of the professions that are most deserving, those that are primary workers of the care economy—teachers and nurses—will benefit considerably.
With the ability to automate or replace activities that did not directly focus on humans, AI will enable teachers and nurses to engage in developing abilities that are truly human—such as emotional intelligence—and connect with students and patients in a more personalized way.

The promise of change
AI has come a long way in only a few years. Yet, many AI use cases are still in a nascent phase. TCS research suggests that the impact of AI will be bigger than that of the internet and smartphones. If that’s true, there are many transformations yet to come. And that is something worth celebrating.
